For the past year, Save Red Rock has been advocating top priority for the #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct to permanently fund the LWCF and dedicate billions of dollars to improve national parks and conserve public land.
Save Red Rock supporters have written letters and made phone calls to Congress, and in a landmark bipartisan showing of support, our Nevada Senators and Representatives unanimously voted for this act.
Then on August 4, 2020, President Trump signed the Great American Outdoors Act into law. Now we are thrilled to have full and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for our national parks, public lands, and conservation areas like Red Rock Canyon.
The Great American Outdoors Act, as now passed by the Senate and House of Representatives and signed by the President, includes funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) which has a nation-wide $900 million/annual budget that is funded with federal oil and gas leases with the funds earmarked for conservation projects. This bill would give approximately $4 million annually to conservation projects in Nevada alone. We believe that the private parcels within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation area would rank strongly for purchase with these funds.
