For Immediate Release: SAVE RED ROCK STRONGLY DISAGREES WITH THE COUNTY COMMISSIONS’ VOTE FOR GYPSUM RESOURCES HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
Save Red Rock strongly disagrees with the Clark County Commission’s unanimous decision to approve a use permit and design map by Gypsum Resources for a single-family residential development in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
“We stand by our statement that this issue is not ripe for review due to it not complying with the Clark County Code nor being properly vetted,” said Heather Fisher, President of Save Red Rock. “We continue to hold additional concerns about water access, legal road access, and the degradation of the overall Red Rock Canyon experience.”
Rob Warhola, Chief Deputy District Attorney, answered concerns about the Red Rock Overlay District by stating this property did not fall under these guidelines because the land has already been disturbed by mining. We hold if the County had this stance, it should have been noted in the staff report released ahead of the meeting. The County Commission approved the use permit at the August 4, 2021 County Commission Meeting.
“We will continue to monitor each aspect of this project, and express our concerns at future county meetings. We look forward to working with the commissioners to ensure they comply with all county codes, including the Red Rock Overlay District,” said Fisher.
