Night Hikes
Save Red Rock has teamed up with the Bureau of Land Management to pursue designation of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area as an Urban Night Sky Place. This is a multi-year effort to keep Red Rock’s nighttime environment healthy, and encourage responsible visitation and education.

Join us for an enchanting evening under the stars during our night hike adventure! Experience moonlit views in Red Rock Canyon where you’ll learn about the natural rhythms that shape this landscape. Feel free to bring your red lights and binoculars, though they are not required.
The location of this hike will be given once you register. This trail is rated as moderate, has 333 feet (~102 m) of elevation gain, and has some areas of uneven, rocky terrain, since we will be hiking at night prior hiking experience is suggested. We will hike approximately 2 miles (3.22 km) total, with an elevation gain of 333 ft (~102 m).
Interpretive programs at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area are a free public service. Advance registration at saveredrock.com/night-hikes is required to attend this program.
When visiting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, it is important to dress accordingly for the weather. It is required to bring closed toe footwear and plenty of water. Have you ever wanted to know more about the scorpions of the Mojave Desert and search for them in their natural habitat using blacklights? Well now is your chance! Join a Bureau of Land Management Ranger for a fun night hike in Red Rock Canyon where we will search for these fascinating arachnids, learn more about them, and their importance in an ecosystem and to us! This trail is rated as easy/moderate, and has some areas of uneven, rocky terrain, since we will be hiking at night prior hiking experience is suggested. 🦂
The location of this hike will be given once registered. We will hike for approximately 45 minutes each way, and as the sun sets and nighttime falls on the desert, we will break out the blacklights to search for scorpions. This trail is rated as easy/moderate, and has some areas of uneven, rocky terrain, since we will be hiking at night prior hiking experience is suggested. We will hike approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) total, with an elevation gain of 300 ft (~90 m).

Our 2025 Star Parties were a massive success, bringing over 1,200 people together under the beautiful dark skies of Red Rock Canyon. This year, we’re planning even more opportunities to connect our community with the cosmos, but we can’t do it without you!

2026 Star Party & Night Hike Series
We have a full schedule of educational stargazing events planned for 2026, in partnership with Red Rock Canyon NCA and other dark sky collaborators. Attendees of all ages can enjoy expert presentations from astronomers, constellation tours, hands-on activities, and the chance to view astronomical marvels using multiple telescopes.
