LAS VEGAS – (Dec. 11, 2020) A vigil honoring the lives of five Las Vegas cyclists who lost their lives in a tragic accident on Thursday, Dec. 10, is being held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Las Vegas Cyclery (10575 Discovery Dr.). The event is being held outdoors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A virtual vigil will also be held at 3 p.m., broadcast from the parking lot of Las Vegas Cyclery. People can cycle or drive through to leave flowers, cards, or to make a donation to support the cyclists’ families. Donations can also be made online at www.lasvegascyclistmemorial.com. The lives being honored include Aksoy Ahmet, 48, Michael Murray, 57, Gerrard Nieva, 41, Erin Ray, 39, and Tom Trauger, 57.
“When one cyclist gets hit, it’s a hit to our entire community,” says Heather Fisher, president of Save Red Rock. “The best way to honor our friends’ lives is to come together and make Las Vegas a safer place for cyclists. An accident like this can never happen again.”
Speakers at the online and in-person vigil include Rep. Susie Lee, County Commissioner Justin Jones, Paul Masto, Heather Fisher of Save Red Rock, Jared Fisher of Las Vegas Cyclery, Pat Treichel of Ghost Bike, Penny Fife, MFT, Trauma Specialist, among other notable members of the Las Vegas community. Members of the community are encouraged to express their memories on a Facebook Livestream that will run throughout the day on the vigil event page.
