LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A new management plan has been approved for the Calico Basin Recreation Area near Red Rock Canyon.
A Bureau of Land Management spokesperson said Thursday that the plan does not contain any specific provisions for a new fee program or reservation system.
Instead, it allows the BLM to consider creating such programs once other regulatory requirements are met. The agency will announce individual projects that may be developed at a later date.
“I appreciate the robust public comment on the Recreation Area Management Plan which will guide future development and provide management direction for recreation resources within the Calico Basin Recreation Area,” Shedra Rakestraw, the acting Red Rock/Sloan assistant field manager, said in a press release.
The BLM said last year it was considering a management plan for Calico Basin based on the high volume of visitors it receives.
More than 1,200 unique comments were sent to the agency during the comment period. A 30-day appeal period also opens on Thursday.
