Las Vegas (KSNV) — Construction on a new trail in the Red Rock area will start soon after lawmakers secured $1M in federal funding.
Congresswoman Susie Lee was able to secure the funds to jump-start the Red Rock Legacy Trail.
Money will help NDOT get started on the project that many say is long overdue.
The trail would move pedestrians and cyclists away from the busy US-159 and onto a 12-foot wide multi-use path, 18 miles wide when done.
In recent years, there have been a number of crashes and accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists getting hit and even killed on the roadway.
The first phase of the trail will extend for about a mile long from Sky Vista Drive in Summerlin to the Red Rock Conservation Area sign.
