TOWN BOARD MEETING
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012
7:00 p.m. Blue Diamond Rec. Hall
5 Village Way, Blue Diamond NV 89004
Red Rock Proposed Development PFNA Presentation
*This is a meeting requested by Jim Rhodes to present his preliminary plan to the Red Rock Advisory Council. We didn’t think he could even do this so soon since he still doesn’t have proper access and he wasn’t able to get the requirement (for showing access first), waived. But the DA, Rob Warhola, is letting it go. Susan Brager said she will try to make it to the meeting because she has always been clear in the conditions that the developer must obtain proper BLM access before presenting the plan, and that he not use 159 for construction traffic. SRR legal counsel, Justin Jones from Holland and Hart, calls these moves by the developer, “a blatant circumvention of Clark County Commission Directives.” Now he’s suddenly burning up the streets with construction traffic and as far as access, in ten years, he has not even applied for it, yet here he is with the PFNA…more below, but first the good news…
ROCK CONCERT!
This Friday, March 2, 2012
6:00 p.m. Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip
3771 Las Vegas Blvd. S., Las Vegas, NV 89109
Indie Rock Band EP Release Concert to highlight Save Red Rock. Mix 94.1 & 107.5 presents IMAGINE DRAGONS with CYNICS, PLAY FOR KEEPS, and AVALON LANDING this Friday, March 2 at Hard Rock. Ever since coalition attorney Matt Callister introduced the cause to the local Rock Scene, several bands have stepped out in support. THE KILLERS, whose bestseller album covers have brought images of their beloved Red Rock Canyon into the homes of fans around the world, met with county commissioners and wrote about their concerns to the newspaper. The LION PRIDE reggae band along with CLETUS & THE MEXICAN SWEAT and REDNECK FUNERAL jammed at the Red Rock Rallys with their live performances. And nowIMAGINE DRAGONS is rockin’ it live on the strip. iD‘s manager announced today that “IMAGINE DRAGONS would be partnering with Save Red Rock at their upcoming national “Continued Silence” EP release concert to bring attention to this cause so dear to their hearts.” Touted by VegasSeven as having the Best Album of 2011, IMAGINE DRAGONS is the new indie anthem rock sound the nation has been waiting for, and finally gets to see, as this hometown band launches its national tour this Friday from the Las Vegas Strip. iD will announce SRR to fans and SRR will be at the door with petition, t-shirts, and bumper stickers. We’ll see you Friday night on the strip!

*Legal Meeting? *This wasn’t supposed to happen until after the developer got BLM approval first as required by county. Susan Brager is checking with the DA to see if it is even legal to have this meeting. She said she had been clear in her directive that he follow due process and major projects protocol and get access before he could present his PFNA. She even made it a condition of approval. But in ten years Rhodes has not obtained BLM access and last month Rhodes tried to waive this requirement by county. He was unsuccessful, but is moving forward anyway tomorrow, by calling it a “preliminary” PFNA. But the DA has not found it illegal thus far, so here he is and here we are.
2) Title 30 does not suggest that a developer can process non-vote major project plans as a dry-run, wasting taxpayer money and citizen time.
3. Since transportation is an integral part of steps 2 and 3 of a major project, and since the developer has not resolved the road issue, presentation of steps 2 & 3 seem inordinately premature.
4) Finally, since the developer acknowledges that the plans to be presented are already undergoing change, I fail to see why I should waste time on a presentation that is already out-of-date.
If you can’t make this meeting, but would like to be involved, the coalition will be holding monthly meetings at REI at Boca Park. Contact Sheila for more info.
