NDOT has planned to put centerline rumble strips on several streets in Nevada including the scenic byways on Mt. Charleston. Please email them to tell them not to do this on Mt. Charleston! The roads there were not designed for this. The imposing width would make driving lanes smaller, completely eliminate any sides for cyclists, and dramatically increase the noise pollution for residents, wildlife, and hikers on the mountain. NDOT has responded to our pleas in Red Rock and as a result did not put rumble strips on 159 and even built a very nice bike lane for us. Please ask them not to go through with the plan to put rumble strips on Mt. Charleston’s scenic byways. It is a very quick and simple email that could (hopefully) make a big difference.
