Senator Breeden is working to help us with this bill to create a safer speed of 45 mph, but the issue is an NRS statute that provides that NDOT determine the speeds of the roads, not legislators. However, after hearing the Senator’s case and the peoples’ testimonies, the Deputy Director is being supportive of the need and is willing to work with us. I was able to drive the road with the traffic engineer to point out more sensitive areas from a public standpoint and the Senator is still working on getting a more appropriate speed limit posted. We heard some great testimonies at the hearing. Here is a summary:

- Dave Carlson: Las Vegas Triathlon club, runners, trainers, marathoners use it for training and events.
- Pauline Van Betten: Red Rock overlay district, unique character of Red Rock worth protecting
- Brent Torino: personal love for cycling and visiting Red Rock
- Marilyn Richard: hiking with her dog and commuting through Red Rock to work safely
- Laura Glismann: resident of Blue Diamond, wild animals
- Randy Parr: ex-metro police officer and triathlon coach uses it to run, ride, coach, lifestyle

- Bob Matthews: Red Rock Citizens Advisory Council represents the needs of the citizens, the number one need that came out of the safety charettes was lower speed.
- Chris Shawn Bunting: Metro, cycling and driving safety and taking kids to Red Rock.
- Kurt Horak: Mountain’s Edge Resident, Las Vegas Cyclery manager, mountain biker, get away from the city, doesn’t mind driving slower
- Jim Little: Las Valley Bicycle Club member and advocate of safer driving and riding in Red Rock
