Yesterday’s committee hearing reviewed legislation to lower the speed limit in Red Rock Canyon. We were excited when the motion passed with unanimous consent. Now it just needs to go to the floor for a final vote. If it passes, we could see results as early as July! It is nice to see so many who recognize the value of a safer, slower Red Rock Canyon. So far, the legislators and NDOT have been supportive of our efforts. Some of the people who testified were: Senator Shirley Breeden, sponsor of the bill, Zane Marshall, local cyclist behind the bill, Erin Breen, UNLV Safe Community Partnerships, Minta Albietz, Blue Diamond Resident and widow of metro officer Don Albietz, NDOT Director Susan Martinovich, Heather Fisher, SaveRedRock.com, the Nevada Conservation League, and Metro Police.
