SUPER EXCITING UPDATE FOR RUNNERS AND CYCLISTS ON MT CHARLESTON: Thanks to your response, letter writing, and public outreach, NDOT is building 8 foot wide shoulders on the Kyle Canyon road all the way up to Mt. Charleston! Thank you NDOT for caring about public safety and the Mt. Charleston experience! Now this is worth a celebratory bike ride!

Undoubtedly, Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, and Mt. Charleston are the most scenic and enjoyable cycling areas in Southern Nevada.
Fortunately, we have been heard in Red Rock Canyon and NDOT constructed some wonderful bike lanes here. Lake Mead also has nice bike lanes as well. Mt. Charleston, however, is sadly lacking.
This very popular cycling route, our only cool respite in the hot summer months, is also very hazardous, due to the lack of bike lanes. Please feel free to email any leads you may have on this issue and stay posted.
Also check out the similar issues of Mt. Charleston Rumble Strips and Overlay District. The people behind the Mt. Charleston Overlay District were very effective on that issue and may have the key to this issue as well. The ideal situation would be to create bike lanes for the bottom half of the mountain (as far up as the rumble strips go) and leave the top half the way it is.
