LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — After receiving a federal grant, Clark County says that it can now build a highly anticipated bike trail, connecting many valley residents to Red Rock Canyon.
The trail, which will run from Hualapai Way and Blue Diamond Road through the town of Blue Diamond to the Red Rock Visitors Center and end at Sky Vista Drive in Summerlin.
This more northern part was approved by the commission in February, spanning 5.5 miles with construction beginning in late 2021.
The second leg, running from the southwest to the visitors center, wasn’t in the works until the most recent federal grant.
The northern part of the trail will be paid for with an $11.7 million federal grant given to the Save Red Rock group with another $2.93 million coming from the Nevada Department of Transportation and more than $600,000 coming from Clark County.
The southern portion of the trail is expected to cost $11.4 million, with $8.5 million coming from the grant and the remaining funding coming from various other sources.
Construction on the second leg should begin in 2025 and take less than one year to complete.
These trails are a part of the Red Rock Legacy Trails, a plan to connect the entire Red Rock area from Charleston Boulevard to Blue Diamond Road.
