Vegas PBS to Host Outdoor Nevada Bike Ride and Proclamation Ceremony

WHAT:  Vegas PBS, in partnership with Save Red Rock and Escape Adventures, will host a free bike ride in Blue Diamond to celebrate the finale of Outdoor Nevada’s fourth season. Outdoor Nevada enthusiasts and loyal fans of the program will have the opportunity to meet host John Burke during the event. Before the ride begins, we will celebrate the proclamation of June 12 as Outdoor Nevada Day at Blue Diamond Park. Dignitaries in attendance will include U.S. Congresswoman Susie Lee, Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, City of North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee, and City of North Las Vegas Councilman Scott Black.

Outdoor Nevada is Vegas PBS’ Emmy award-winning series that explores the Silver State and promotes its many local adventures and attractions. The proclamation recognizes Outdoor Nevada’s contributions to state tourism, cultural enrichment and outdoor recreational activities.

Bikes are available to rent from Las Vegas Cyclery by calling 702.596.2953.

Those interested in joining the ride will need to RSVP as space is limited. RSVP is available at vegaspbs.org/outdoornevada.

A National Conservation Area (NCA) is a protected piece of Public Land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the National Landscape Conservation System. It`s similar to, but not a National Park.

NCAs are like nature`s sanctuaries. They`re off-limits to mining and have strict rules about motorized vehicles. Red Rock Canyon is the nation`s first and most-visited NCA, making it one of the most special places in the country.
In total, there are seventeen NCAs in the National Landscape Conservation System, each one a special piece of America`s natural heritage waiting to be explored.

Today (July 3, 2024), the County— backed into a legal corner — approved a Development Agreement that allows 3,500 homes (+ commercial spaces) to be built adjacent to Red Rock Canyon NCA.

🥹 Though we were expecting this outcome, we showed up to the meeting anyway to speak our minds and participate in the democratic process.
