Great news everyone! Red Rock’s in the clear! No need to go to Feb. 8 meeting!
Thanks to YOUR public involvement and a supportive county commission, the developer has withdrawn his application for BOTH WAIVERS for Red Rock! There will not be a vote on February 8, 2012. This could not have happened without so much public support. Thanks to the Save Red Rock Coalition members, the LV Astronomical Society, THE KILLERS Rock Band, the Nevada Conservation League, the cyclists and runners, the homeowners groups, the Tour Companies, the photographers, and the thousands of concerned citizens in Las Vegas and beyond for voicing your concerns.
Thank You Chairwoman Brager and Supportive Commissioners for hearing your constituents and caring about the canyon. Since day one of the waivers request, Commission Chairwoman, Susan Brager said that she would not waive these two conditions of protection for Red Rock that she created and hosted a public meeting at which she reiterated her resolve. We believe it was this open and public commitment that set the tone for this latest battle and is directly responsible for the win today, along with the historic support of Commissioners Chris Giunchiliani and Lawrence Weekly, and indications of support by other commissioners. We are grateful that the scenic byway is no longer being proposed as a construction traffic route and that public BLM process is not being circumvented. We are very excited about this and will support our commissioners in any effort to help SAVE RED ROCK CANYON!
Thank you Rick Colville and Max Heeman for doing exhaustive research on the waivers, the development, and the land use laws. Jim Rhodes may have good lawyers, but there’s no wool being pulled over anyone’s eyes here. We just want him to have to do what any other property owner would have to do, and not circumvent the law. Rick and Max know the law so it won’t be that easy for him anymore. If anyone needs any facts at all, thanks to them, we have reasearch the size of the Library of Congress at our disposal!
Thank you Justin Jones and Matt Callister and the pro bono services of Holland and Hart and Callister Law for interpreting and applying the law, and for keeping the coalition in line and progressively marching towards protection of Red Rock Canyon. With this calibur legal guidance and the help of more and more interested parties, the coalition is strengthening daily.
