RE: please vote NO on both waivers
On January 18, 2012, seven county commissioners will decide the fate of the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Byway. Will it become the next construction highway for Southern Nevada? Will the mess and debris of construction traffic penetrate our sacred canyon, and clog it up with debris, noise, dust, and pollution? Will they grant this developer a favor by helping him with the BLM at the taxpayers’ expense?
The commissioners need widespread support to save Red Rock Canyon. Ask the seven commissioners to PLEASE VOTE NO on the two waivers and to PROTECT RED ROCK CANYON as a local, state, and national treasure.

Red Rock Canyon is a popular national treasure, invaluable to the Nevada lifestyle and economy. Please let your Federal Delegation know what is at stake here and ask what they can do to PROTECT RED ROCK CANYON from a developer who is asking the Clark County Commissioners to let him build a city in the middle of it, use the scenic byway as his construction highway, and change it forever. I am asking you to protect Red Rock Canyon by voting against the proposed
waivers that
1-would allow construction traffic in Red Rock Canyon
2-would do the developer a special favor at the taxpayers’ expense.
It sacrifices the recreational value of one of the Southwest’s
most popular hiking, cycling, and rock climbing destinations.
It is not logical on a development that isn’t even approved yet. This proposal
prematurely ruins Las Vegas’ best recreational and tourism resource
for a shortsighted temporary gain by a single self-serving party.
It opens the door to future developers trying to break the rules for
building in and around our most beloved national treasures.

For the past 10 years a local developer has worked to change the zoning and land use plans in Red Rock Canyon in order to facilitate his development of 7000 homes and various commercial enterprises. Such development will forever change the nature of Red Rock Canyon.
The Canyon is a national treasure, one that draws people from around the world and is a point of pride locally, state-wide, and nationally. If the Clark County Commissioners allow Mr. Rhodes to punch a Construction Traffic highway through the canyon then we will have lost one of our best recreational resources. And if they grant him a favor by helping him with the BLM, it shows favoritism to one developer over an entire concerned public.
The Clark County Commission meeting is set for January 18, 2012. Please do what you can to stop this atrocity in Red Rock Canyon.
