Wonderful news! Big victory for Save Red Rock yesterday! Click below to see the good news! But there’s still more to do. The last line of the clip is worth noting: “Nevada’s Congressional delegation also would have to be on board for this to move forward.” Letter writing campaign coming soon!

SAVING RED ROCK CANYON
Commissioner Susan Brager’s proposal to trade Federal land for private in-holding in Red Rock Canyon is good news (RJ, 1/19/2013, p. 3B). the Canyon is a priceless National treasure and it would be a shame to see 4700 homes, a business park, and retail areas in the middle of such a marvelous gift of nature.
We all have an important part to play in protecting the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. A Federal trade has been suggested in the past and, while Mr. Rhodes has been amenable to the idea, our Federal representatives have not. The Bureau of Land Management has taken the position that the private land has been scarred by mining and is not worthy of inclusion in the Conservation Area. Our elected Federal officials have refused to engage in a trade. It is up to us to convince our leaders that the Canyon is worth saving as a National resource.

Public Requests for Environmental Study Denied
It seems ironic that the Nevada “Division of Environmental Protection” would issue a permit without considering the public’s (hundreds of) requests to do an evironmental study first. Here is the report from NDEP about the most recent meeting and permit issuance. Funny how many people thought that the environment on public land next to a […]
