March 31 Mtg. and News Stories

---COPY OF APRIL 1 EMAIL UPDATE---

Dear friends of Red Rock Canyon,

I want to thank everyone who came to the Red Rock Citizen's Advisory Council meeting last night.  Many good ideas were heard and offered as to how to best protect the Red Rock Overlay district--and though it does have to be a multi-faceted approach--one thing was loud and clear, Red Rock Canyon is not an appropriate place for big development, and we will have to remain committed to achieving a permanent solution.  I will post more details later on the website.
This is a big issue for Las Vegas.  It made the nightly news and the front page of the paper again.  Thanks again for coming and standing up for Red Rock.

On another note, don't forget to play an April Fools joke on the ones you love most today!  My son taped the handle on the kitchen sink squirter so that we would get all wet when we turned on the faucet.  As many times as he's done it, it still gets me every time!
Just keep swimming...

meeting summary

For those of you who could not make it to the Red Rock Citizens' Advisory Council meeting, I will let you know when the next one is.  Here is a summary of last night's proceedings.  The community center was filled to capacity.  Attendees picked up arm bands and bumper stickers to show their support for Red Rock.  The night was filled with public gave testimony to Commissioner Susan Brager about why people don't want big development.  District Attorney, Rob Warhola, offered arguments on why the amendment should pass, and advisory board member, Evan Blythin, offered arguments on why it shouldn't, two opinions on how to save Red Rock Canyon and the county from a complex legal situation.  The advisory council called for a public vote, then supported that vote by passing a motion to advise Clark County Commissioners to not pass the amendment that exempts Jim Rhodes' mountain property from the Red Rock Overlay District.  (This amendment is proposed to avoid the possibility of losing the entire Red Rock Overlay (rural zoning protection) in court.  The state already lost the case and the county is facing the possibility of the same judgement.  But the state case is going to appeal and the majority of the citizens opted to chance that the state and/or county could win their cases over negotiating a settlement with Jim Rhodes.)  This was a citizen's advisory motion only; the deciding vote will be done by the County Commissioners at the Clark County building on April 21, 2010.  That will be an important hearing for public participation.

Red Rock meeting this Wednesday

email update 03/29/10

There is an important meeting this Wednesday, March 31, 2010,  about the issue of possible urban density development in Red Rock Canyon.  There has been a lot of discussion about it and we would like to involve all of you who care so much about the canyon to participate, prior to the hearing on April 21.  This Wednesday, the Red Rock Citizen's Advisory Council will be hosting Commissioner Susan Brager and others from Clark County to discuss the options facing Red Rock Canyon, and to hear your viewpoints.  If the meeting overfills, or you can't make it, Commissioner Brager said she would be willing to meet again in Las Vegas, but that time and location remains to be determined.
